Operation Halloween: Check of NY Sex Offenders

Posted: Updated:
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -

Parole officers in New York kicked off a mission to make sure kids don't knock on the doors of sex offenders.

As kids trick or treated, Senior Parole Officer Bob Fall and his team also knocked on doors.  Those of registered sex offenders on parole.

"The goal for this operation is to keep the community safe," says Fall.

Fall says he wants to make sure offenders are following special rules for Halloween.  Those include not answering the door for trick-or-treaters, not having candy, and not wearing a costume.

"Honestly I think it's good that they do that," says Josh Coss, a registered sex offender.

Parole officers say Coss is a tier one offender for having sex with a kid.

"Should parents be concerned about a kid knocking at your door? Are you a threat to those kids?" asked FOX44/ABC22.

"No, me I've been through the counseling and everything," says Coss.

During this operation, officers will check on 61 sex offenders on parole in Clinton, Essex, and Franklin counties.

Operation Halloween is now in its seventh year.  Fall says this close eye on sex offenders helps make sure they don't repeat their crime.

"Sex offenders are of great concern," says Fall.

Out of the 61 offenders only one was not home as required.  He will now face a parole hearing and possibly head back to prison.
