POULTNEY, Vt. -

Last week FOX44 and ABC22 told you about Green Mountain College's intention to slaughter two oxen.

They're names are Bill and Lou.

They've been the mascots of the college. School leaders say Bill and Lou must be put down because of an injury one of them suffered.

Many protested that decision.

The Vermont Secretary of Agriculture, Chuck Ross, agrees with the decision Wednesday morning.

He says he supports the effort of those working toward a community-supported, sustainable agriculture.

He also says it's not uncommon for people to raise animals for meat.
