VT Man Charged With Assaulting Trooper

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD, Vt. -

A Vermont man has been accused of throwing a bottle a state trooper and injuring him in a scuffle at a gas station.

Police said 30-year-old Travis Duffy of Springfield entered the Springfield Mobil store and asked to use the phone Tuesday night. He was told store policy doesn't allow it.

Police said Duffy became upset and told clerks to call the police. He then started to open some food, eating some and throwing some around the store. The clerks called 911.

The trooper arrived to see Duffy cramming food into his mouth and starting to open a bottle of wine. The trooper told him not to open the bottle. Police said Duffy then threw it at him.

The trooper was treated at a hospital.
