Vermont Emergency Leaders Ready for Sandy

Posted: Updated:
WATERBURY, Vt. -

Vermont emergency leaders say they're ready to go as Hurricane Sandy makes her way into state.

They held a news conference Monday morning from the emergency operation center in Waterbury.

Public Safety Commissioner Keith Flynn says it's all hands on deck.

All state police will be on duty Monday night.

As of now, no roads are expected to close but Flynn says the safest bet is not to travel at all.

"Certainly we would recommend during the peak time when the winds are at their strongest, if you don't have to go somewhere, that now would be a good time to stay home. Because obviously the less traffic on the roads the safer it will be for everybody," said Flynn.

Flynn says there are also a number of emergency shelters ready to go across the state but they won't set up those up until it's necessary.
