Voters in NH Town Tradition Will Cast the Very First Ballots on Election Day

Posted: Updated:
DIXVILLE NOTCH, N.H. -

A tiny town near the Canadian border has a very special claim to fame.

Dixville Notch has a long standing tradition.

Every Election Day, the registered voters gather at midnight to cast the very first ballots in the nation.

This year for the first time since 1960, those votes won't be cast at the Balsams Grand Resort.

The remote hotel, which has a room filled with political memorabilia and a special glass encased ballot box, is under new ownership and renovations.

So the 9 voters will go to a local ski lodge.
