Governor Shumlin: Dramatic Decrease in Bath Salt Cases

Posted: Updated:
BARRE, Vt. -

We're learning more about Vermont's war against bath salts.

Thursday, Governor Peter Shumlin says the state has seen a dramatic decline in cases.

It's a decrease we first reported nearly two months ago.

Shumlin addressed the media Thursday from the Barre police station.

He says the two summer emergency bans have worked.

Even though this may not be new information, leaders say it's important to remind people about the dangers of these substances.

"It's something that you're going to continue to hear about because its, as long as these substances are sold in bordering states, I don't think it's a problem that is going to entirely go away," said Barre Mayor Thom Lauzon.

Although the emergency bans are temporary and expire early next year, Shumlin plans to submit a proposal when the legislature resumes making them permanent.
