Vermont Governor on Hurricane Sandy: We’re Watching

Posted: Updated:
MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin says state officials are watching Hurricane Sandy, closely.

The hurricane, which is now moving over the Bahamas, will continue to move north, along the East Coast. As of right now, it is a category two hurricane, packing winds of up to 105 mph. It is moving north at about 16 mph.

On Thursday, Governor Shumlin told Fox44 News that he's working with the National Weather Service and emergency management officials to track every inch of the storm.

"We need to take these warnings very seriously so we're going to track it," said Governor Shumlin. "We don't really have the information that we need, yet, but we will be updating Vermonters very carefully."

The latest forecast track is putting the hurricane at around New York City by Tuesday morning.

Vermonters could see heavy rains and strong winds from this storm.
