SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Stores expect to be busy the next few days, with many people dressing up for Halloween parties this weekend.
The most popular costumes this year come from Hollywood, current events, and of course the good old standbys.
They are all part of the nearly $3-billion that Americans spend on Halloween costumes.
"Looking around, trying to get an idea of prices. But usually the kids win so if they find something they like they usually get it," says Dawn Moultroup, who was shopping with kids at Spirit Halloween in South Burlington Wednesday.
Store staff say this year popular costumes come from the movies, including The Hunger Games and Zombie Girls.
"Usually I don't do something scary and people are telling me I should do something scary this year so I'm gonna," says Joceylin Sysling, who was shopping for a zombie costume.
Also popular this year, costumes inspired by celebrities and presidential politicians.
Don't be worried if a trendy isn't your thing. That's because most people, about 90-percent, chose a traditional costume or something that was their own idea.
That means there will still be lots of super heroes and princesses.
To find a costume, stock up on candy, and buy decorations, a national retail survey found the average person is going to spend about 80 bucks this Halloween. The most amount in the past ten years.
