Brattleboro, VT Approves Police and Fire Station Renovations, Reject Sales Tax

Posted: Updated:
BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -

Town representatives in Brattleboro, Vt. have approved a $14 million renovation plan for the police and fire stations.

But they've also rejected a sales tax that could've helped pay for them.

An extra 1% that would've been added to 6% sales tax for retail goods.

It was voted down at a town meeting this weekend.

According to the Brattleboro Reformer many say the 1% tax would make it harder for locally owned stores to survive.
