BURLINGTON, Vt. -
The Barstool Blackout Tour is an 18-plus party aimed at college students.
This past weekend the tour stopped here at Burlington's Memorial Auditorium.
"It was music, lights, lots of people," said Sonya Shafigue.
"A lot of fun, a lot of lights a lot of people." Said Katie Keenan.
For city leaders there were too many people.
In fact the event broke the fire code allowing at least 200 more people than was allowed in the building.
The other concern, alcohol.
Police say 16 people, all under the age of 21, had to be held overnight because they had drank too much.
"We could've had someone die Friday night, we're lucky we didn't," said Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger.
Weinberger says party goers broke mirrors and tore curtains.
As far as how much it's going to cost to fix the building up, Weinberger isn't sure, but he plans to send a bill for that, plus the use of extra police officers to the production company.
So how was this allowed in the first place?
A parks and rec employee approved it in April.
That person just didn't know how wild the event would be.
Weinberger admits their current policy to book this space is outdated and now says he's working on a new plan.
"It appears to me the employee was implementing city policy and it's hard to hold someone responsible for that," said Weinberger.
As for this event returning to the Queen City next year?
"I can tell you unequivocally that the Barstool Blackout tour will not be returning to Memorial Audition in February."
Weinberger says it could take a month to create a new plan that would have to be approved by the city council.
