Cab Driver Robbed at Gunpoint in Milton

Posted: Updated:
MILTON, Vt. -

A Yellow Cab driver was robbed at gun point early Sunday morning by two men he drove them from Burlington to Milton.

The driver brought two men to the Deer Run community in Milton after picking them up in downtown Burlington but after they arrived at their requested location one of the men took out a gun and demanded money.

"We recommend they just comply with what they want," Milton police officer Jason Porter said.

"Getting injured isn't worth the small amount of money they'll end up getting off you."

Its advice the cab driver followed. The man wielding the gun grabbed money from the driver's jacket then both suspects took off down a driveway before disappearing into the woods. Milton police responded to the scene and Burlington k9 units assisted in tracking the men but eventually the trail went cold.

"They were able to do a track for a short period of time where we think the suspects went but unfortunately no one was apprehended last night," Officer Porter said.

Police are looking for two white males who appear to be in their early twenties. Further details of their appearance are at the bottom of the article.

But what may be worrying for cab drivers in Burlington is that this is the second robbery in the past month. The other happened near downtown Burlington. But cab drivers say it's a job that comes with certain dangers.

"I've had a guy get in the car and say he had a gun and that he was going to kill me," Cab driver Wally Norton said.

There's not much you can do when someone has a gun to the back of your head but cab drivers know there's several ways to keep that from happening or alerting police when it does.

"They could also put in bullet proof shield like in the big cities. They could put a little blinking light on the cab or something that you could click on that if anybody was inside the car and they had a gun they could flip the light and they could see it," Norton said.
