BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Burlington's firefighters were working to make the state a better place but not by putting fires out.
Instead they held a 5k in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association and one of their biggest fans Andrew Angelano, who has the disorder.
After the support run in Oakledge Park, the 53 runners chowed down and showed of their medals. The firefighters raised almost $8,000 and for the event organizer having Andrew at the run makes it that much better.
"This is why we do it. So the fact that they come out and support us makes it that much easier to support them," says Jamie Valyou, event organizer.
This was the first Firefighters for The MDA Run and they're looking forward to hosting a second next year.
