WATERBURY, Vt. -
Waterbury Police released an image of a Merchants Bank ATM security camera captured around 11:30 Thursday night.
They say Cory Miner, 20, of Waterbury, Vt., armed with a shotgun, fired four shots, three at an ATM, one at a security camera.
He didn't get any money but police say Miner wasn't finished yet.
Nearly twenty minutes later they say he fired a pistol into the Waterbury Pharmacy.
A neighbor heard the shots and called 911.
Three minutes later Miner took off after police arrived.
Store manager Jerimy Thivierge expected the worst.
"Fortunately it wasn't trashed or anything," said Thivierge.
Although police say Miner made off with some pills.
Police say the suspect was able to shoot his way through a side panel of glass, an action that didn't set off the stores alarm.
They say it wasn't until they actually went through a door when the alarm sounded.
"We have motion sensors, I'm not sure. I have the security guy coming back in the afternoon to test the system and find out what happened," said Thivierge.
But in a way police say they're glad Miner didn't trip the alarm.
"If he had responded directly to the scene we very well might have had a shootout," said Waterbury Police Chief Joby Feccia.
Police say Miner took off into a field and got away.
More than twelve hours later Miner confessed and Thivierge is glad police were able to make an arrest.
"We don't need someone running around Waterbury shooting things up," said Thivierge.
Following Thursday night's incident, the Waterbury Pharmacy manager says they're not only making changes to their current security system, they're in the process of beefing it up.
Miner will be in court on Monday.
