COLCHESTER, Vt. -
Thousands of people are going to
hit the road to raise money for breast cancer Sunday. The American Cancer
Society is holding two Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events.
Organizers expect between 2,000
and 2,500 participants, but Making Strides Event Chair Darren Ross says more
people are welcome. He says it is well worth your time.
"There is a lot of joy, a
lot of sadness. Overall I think people walk away with smiles on their faces,"
Ross said.
Much of the money raised will
stay in Vermont, to fund research and programs that provide patients
transportation to treatment.
The goal for 2012 is to raise
$275,000, but so far, the American Cancer Society is short. It's raised roughly
$170,000 so far.
There are two events on Sunday.
One is at Dorset Park in South Burlington, Vt. A second one is at the Diamond
Run Mall in Rutland, Vt.
Registration for both events
begins at 11am. The walks begin at 1pm.
Breast Cancer affects more than
7,000 women in Vermont each year.
