Schumer Calling on Congress to Tighten Oversight of Student Visas

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

Senator Charles Schumer is calling on Congress to tighten oversight of student visas.

Schumer says the student visa Quazi Nafis, the 21-year-old who tried detonating a car bomb outside the Federal Reserve Building, obtained from a Missouri University is legitimate.

His quick transfer to a New York College should have raised a red flag.

Schumer says so called "sham universities" continue to issue student visas, which serve as a back door for potential terrorists trying to enter the states.

"We have to close the student visa  loophole now before any more would-be terrorists use it," Schumer (D-N.Y.) said.

Schumer says his bill would close loopholes that currently allow these universities to issue visas and make a huge profit at the expense of America's safety.
