ANTARCTICA -

The New York Air National Guard is headed south.

Several planes are headed to Antarctica.

It's a 5 day, 1,110 mile annual journey.

The planes and crews will be on the continent through February supporting the National Science Foundation's research.

They'll run supplies and people to field camps across the continent and the South Pole station.

The planes they're using are the only aircraft in the United States military capable of landing on snow and ice.
