$1.7 Million Loss for State, No Court System Upgrade

MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Nearly two million dollars was spent, but there's nothing to show for it.

Money generated from Vermont speeding tickets was supposed to go toward upgrading the courts 22 year old computer system.

Clerks say the technology upgrade is necessary because right now, they rely heavily on paper... not much is electronic.

But after investing more than a million dollars, the state was concerned about whether the tech company could do the project on time, and within budget.

"We were projecting that it might have expanded to seven point five to eight million dollars, something we couldn't tolerate, so we bit the bullet and just said we've got to stop it now before we invest more into this project," Court Administrator, Bob Greemore said.

The plan for now is just to make improvements to the current system.
