Joe Biden and Paul Ryan Square Off in Thursday Night's Debate

DANVILLE, Ky. -

The vice presidential candidates take center stage Thursday night in their first and only debate.

It will be held at Center College in Danville, Ky.

Some say both sides are putting a lot of effort into the event.

Historically, VP debates have not mattered as much as presidential face-offs, but some analysts suggest this showdown could be a game changer.

Some say Ryan has the added pressure of selling himself to voters.

Biden on the other hand is someone the American public feels like they can connect with.

"The public sees him (Biden) as a real person... down to earth, be able to communicate with the lunch bucket guys. If Ryan comes off as too studious, too academic, too wonkish, then he runs into a problem in contrast to Joe Biden," Richard Benedetto, Political Science Professor at American University, said.

Next it's round two for President Obama and Governor Romney on October 16.
