Final Fundraising Effort for VT Country Store

Posted: Updated:
GUILFORD, Vt. -

A nonprofit group in Vermont working to reopen the Guilford Country Store is looking for one more round of community fundraising.

The group, Friends of Algiers Village Inc., says more than $590,000 has been raised, with another $90,000 needed to complete the project. Support for the project has come from the Preservation Trust of Vermont and a $65,000 grant secured by Sen. Patrick Leahy. The group also has been awarded an $11,000 Thompson Trust grant, but that depends on matching funds from the community.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports that a new floor is being installed this week, and the group has uncovered the building's original windows. An open house is planned for Sunday to show off the renovations and kick-off the latest fundraiser.
