Insurance Payout Will Help Replace the Bartonsville Bridge

Posted: Updated:
ROCKINGHAM, Vt. -

An insurance payout will help Rockingham, Vt. replace an iconic covered bridge.

The Bartonsville Bridge was insured for a million dollars and the Vermont League of Cities and Towns has now paid more than that to the town.

The bridge was washed out by Tropical Storm Irene, a scene caught on video and one of the lasting images of the storm.

Previously, the league had argued the policy didn't cover the full amount.

However, Vermont Public Radio reports the policy was reviewed and the payout completed.

Replacing the bridge will cost at least $2.4 million.
