From Meteorologist Steve Glazier,
First of all, a big THANK YOU to the dozens of pictures we have received through our Share Your Voice section of our web site. In early September we started asking you to send in your foliage pictures so we could show them on the morning show. At first it was a little slow, but now the pictures are coming in just as fast as the leaves are turning across the tri-state area.
So on the left-hand-side you will see small images with a plus sign on the corner. Go ahead, click that enlarge button and you'll get a better view of the image. Those are pictures I took while I was on a bike ride Columbus Day. I must admit, we haven't had many sunny days in the last two weeks. A lot of clouds and rain have limited the sunny foliage pictures, so I had to take my opportunity Monday to snatch a few.
These pictures are from the Champlain Valley, particularly the Burlington area. A lot of color is now coming out in the valley. I would say by October 13/14 the Burlington area will be at peak foliage. I've noticed leaves already falling off the trees along the mountainside in northern Vermont. Past peak is quickly approaching the higher elevations, if it hasn't already set in there.
I've heard great comments about the foliage this year. I've also heard that the foliage is either on time or slightly early, according to various reports from the region. If someone says it is early in their location, it's usually by about a week or so. There are a few days coming up this week (Oct. 10-12) where the winds will be pretty strong in the higher and lower elevations, so this may strip the trees of their leaves even more.
Of course, you can always keep sending your pictures to the Share Your Voice link above, or by clicking here.
Again thank you very much for these! Feel free to navigate your way around that section of our web site, as beautiful pictures have come in so far.
