BURLINGTON, Vt. -
The three major party candidates running for Vermont's next Attorney General sat down Monday evening for a live debate. The candidates took questions from callers live on the air. Topics ranged from crime to welfare fraud to police taser policy, but there were a lot of topics not discussed.
"We didn't talk about immigration issues, racial bias and policing," said current A.G. William Sorrell.
"Another issue was Vermont Yankee," said progressive challenger, Ed Stanak.
While Sorrell has held the position for nearly 15 years, Stanak and McMullen say they have the experience and leadership skills to do the job.
"I have 35 years of legal experience ranging from criminal law, contract law, property rights," said Stanak.
"I have a business and a law background," said republican challenger, Jack McMullen.
While it's a challenge for any contender to go up against an incumbent the underdogs are working to get their ideas out there.
Whether it's advertisements, "I get to speak directly through ads and I'm doing that as well," said McMullen.
Or a grassroots effort, "I go around the state, I speak to citizen activists groups," said Stanak.
With just about 4 weeks left current attorney general, Sorrell encourages everyone to register, "It's important for everyone to have a say and go out and vote on November 6th."
October 31st is the last day to register for the general election.
