Jury selection begins Monday for a Vermont woman accused of hitting and injuring a pedestrian while texting and driving.

Emma Vieira, 19, of Colchester, has pleaded not guilty to grossly negligent operation of a vehicle with serious injury—stemming from a crash in August 2011, which injured 54-year-old Debbie Drewniak.

Police said Drewniak was walking her dog on River Road when Vieira hit both of them.

Jury selection will last throughout Monday, with the trial expected to start Tuesday, according to Chittenden County State's Attorney TJ Donovan.

If convicted, Vieira could face up to 15 years in prison.
