Vt. Deer Biologist Predicts Strong Hunting Season

Posted: Updated:
BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -

(AP) - Last winter's mild weather coupled with the early spring green-up are expected to lead to a strong deer hunting season this fall in Vermont.

Deer biologist Adam Murkowski tells the Brattleboro Reformer (bit.ly/R1ar2Y) that population growth is expected throughout the state this year thanks to increased over-winter survival and optimal fawning conditions. Given that growth, he says it's important for hunters to harvest enough deer to keep the herd healthy.

Hunters are allowed to take up to three deer per year. The state has four deer hunting periods between October and December - archery, youth weekend, November rifle season and December muzzleloader.
