CAMPTON, N.H. -

Police in Campton, N.H., are asking residents to be vigilant following a report of a man impersonating an officer.

Campton Police Chief Christopher Warn said a 24-year-old female driver told authorities she was signaled to stop Tuesday night by a dark-colored SUV displaying a blue light in the vehicle's grill on Route 175.

Police said the driver described the man as wearing a dark-colored raincoat, civilian clothes and a baseball-style hat. She said she saw no badges or identifying police insignia.

She said the man then demanded she produce her license and registration and wanted to search her car.

The driver told police she started questioning the man's identity and when she began dialing her cell phone, the man got into the SUV and drove away, heading toward Thornton.
