JAY, N.Y. -
UPDATE: The child was located after 4 p.m. Tuesday. According to the DEC, a couple with a seasonal home nearby heard about the missing child and began searching. He was dressed in long pants, a long sleeve shirt and socks but no shoes. The DEC says, he appears to be healthy.
According to David Winchell, spokesperson for the New York DEC, they received a call at 2:20 p.m. that a 2-year-old boy had wandered off from home in the Ausable Acres in the Town of Jay.
Three DEC forest rangers in the area immediately responded and have begun searching the woods near the point where he was last seen.
NY State Police and additional forest rangers are en route to the location to join search efforts.
