Posted: Updated:
JAY, Vt. -

Vermont officials have unveiled plans for development projects in northern Vermont that would generate more than 5,000 new jobs.

The plans include expansion of Jay Peak and Burke Mountain ski areas, which recently came under joint ownership. Also planned are a new hotel and manufacturing facilities in Newport - the region's largest town - and expansion of the state airport in Coventry.

The airport project features lengthening the runway, construction of a new hangar and the addition of a maintenance operation for light planes.

More than 200 people were on hand a Jay Peak to hear the announcement by Gov. Peter Shumlin and Vermont's congressional delegation.
