Cashier Accused of Stealing Thousands of Lottery Tickets

WATERBURY, Vt. -

Police say for at least a year 33-year-old Ami Lamell pocketed full books of lottery tickets from the Crossroads Beverage Store in Waterbury where she worked.

According to police, Lamell stole more than 25-thousand dollars worth of tickets. They say she and an acquaintance, Eric Luman, redeemed them.

Police aren't sure how much the pair won.

When the lottery account was completely wiped out, the store owner became suspicious. After setting up a hidden camera, Lamell was caught red-handed.

"We started losing whole books at a time, we're not talking about someone taking a couple of tickets out of the dispenser out there, whole entire books were missing," James Quinn, Crossroads owner said.

Lamell and Luman will be in court in November to face the embezzlement charges.
