Crossroad Beverage Employee Charged With Embezzlement

WATERBURY, Vt. -

A Crossroad Beverage employee has been charged with embezzlement.

According to police, Ami Lamell, 33, of Barre City, Vt., is accused of stealing several instant lottery ticket booklets from the Crossroads Beverage in Waterbury, Vt. Lamell then activated the booklets through the Vermont Lottery Commission's lottery register.

A press release says she had been redeeming the winning tickets at local establishments for more than a year. Lamell was an employee at the store for 5 years.

Police say a friend of Lamell, Eric Luman, 27, of Burlington, Vt., was also redeeming stolen lottery tickets. He was charged with embezzlement and driving while his license suspended after he drove to the Vermont State Police Barracks in Middlesex Tuesday for questioning.

The investigation is ongoing. Police say the amount lost is in excess of $25,000.
