ST. ALBANS, Vt. -
Continuing coverage on a story we first told you about last month... Police say a mom of three drove drunk and flipped her car. Her young daughters were trapped inside, but fortunately no one was seriously hurt.
Police say Michelle Medor had four times the legal alcohol limit in her system when she crashed 50 feet from her home. The 27 year old mom of three told me in court today that she hasn't had a drink since the crash.
"I'll regret it for the rest of my life," Michelle Medor said.
That's what Medor told me in court Monday, before someone shoed her away.
"You shouldn't be talking to her until you talk to your lawyer," someone in the courthouse hallway yelled.
Medor pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence and three counts of child cruelty... one count for each child.
"I'm a good person and I made a bad mistake," Medor said.
Medor told police she drank one beer before picking up her eight year old daughter and four year old twins from daycare, but police say Medor had more than four times the legal limit in her system when she flattened plants, slammed into a guardrail and ended up upside down in a ditch, in her front yard.
"Every DWI is a potentially life threatening incident," the Franklin County State's Attorney Jim Hughes said.
If you add up the time that's attached to each charge, Medor could technically spend eight years behind bars, but the state's attorney says he plans to recommend rehab instead.
"All of the treatments that we have are self-help so a person has to want to address whatever issues there are underneath," Hughes said.
Medor says she's getting help and hasn't had a drink since the day of the crash.
"I plan on going to meetings and I started counseling and I'm 45 days sober today," Medor said.
The man in court with her is the children's father. Medor's three children are in his custody. Medor and the kids' father are still in a relationship and do not live in the same house.
