Stop the F-35 Coalition Hires an Attorney

Posted: Updated:
COLCHESTER, Vt. -

One group says the F-35 fighter bomber jets that could come to Burlington are too loud.

In an effort to keep the jets away from the Burlington International Airport, a group has formed and hired an attorney.

Members of the "Stop the F-35 Coalition" are concerned the noisy jets will decrease the property value of their homes.

But it's not just those in the flight path who are against the project... Some members of the coalition are anti-war and say supporting the F-35's are a waste of tax payer money.

"It will cost one and a half trillion dollars over the next decade and the F-35's that have been produced so far have been faulty," Laurie Gagne, "Stop the F-35 Coalition" member said.

The attorney for the coalition is Jim Dumont of Bristol. He's challenging Burlington leaders because he says the military isn't exempt from meeting environmental protection standards.

The Air Force currently flies quieter, F-16's.
