New Fast and Furious Report Does Not Recommend Criminal Sanctions

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

After some Republicans accused him of a cover up, Attorney General, Eric Holder says he didn't known about the botched operation while it was unraveling.

Launched in 2009, the Fast and Furious program tracked illegal gun trafficking between the United States and Mexico.

But, it went south and the ATF says it lost track of nearly 2,000 weapons, including some found at the murder scene of a U.S. border patrol agent.

The report released Wednesday does not recommend any criminal sanctions.

Following the release of the Inspector General's report, the former director of the ATF announced he is retiring. The former deputy assistant attorney general resigned.

Attorney General Holder says both personnel changes were related to their roles in the Fast and Furious program.
