UVM Staffers Closer to Unionizing

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

UVM staffers are a step closer to forming a union.

Now the question for staffers is if they want to join the University Staff Union-NEA.

After two-days of voting, the result was a majority of staffers wanted to join a union.  Then the question was which of two unions to join.  The most votes went to USU-NEA.

"It's been 20-years in the making of getting a union. All of us, the majority of us have said, yes we want a union. We have one choice, University Staff-NEA, if we want a union and this is our chance to do it," says Paul Chapman, USU-NEA supporter.

The results are unofficial for ten-days.  Then a runoff will be scheduled.

The 800 UVM staffers will then be asked whether they want to be represented by USU-NEA.
