MONTPELIER, Vt. -

The Vermont Health Commissioner, Harry Chen, has confirmed a second Vermonter has died from EEE.

The 49-year-old lived in Sudbury, Vt.

Chen says the disease is very rare and there are only six cases nationwide each year.

The Health Department advises Vermonters to protect themselves from mosquito bites and risk of infection from EEE and West Nile virus by:
- Limiting the amount of time outside at dawn and dusk
- Wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants outside when mosquitoes are active,
- Wearing insect repellents.

The Health Department also says to remove standing water around your house to limit mosquitoes.

Another man, an 87-year-old passed away earlier this month from EEE.
