Car Seat Safety

Posted: Updated:
COLCHESTER, Vt. -

Child seats are imperative for safety when riding in the car but about 80% of them aren't used correctly.

As part of Child Passenger Safety Week certified experts from the BeSeatSmart project were checking and installing car seats to meet safety guidelines Saturday outside of Fletcher Allen.

They were also taking used car seats to be recycled.

Sometimes car seats are tossed on the side of the road after they've been in an accident or warn out. Some people will pick them up to put in their cars. It's why recycling serves a dual purpose of saving supplies and keeping children safe.

"To get all of those seats that are potentially hazards to children off of the streets out of garages out of attics and get them properly recycled so they can't ever be used again," BeSeatSmart Manager Ann Weinstein said.
