Once-Popular Vt. Restaurant Coming Down

Posted: Updated:
SHELBURNE, Vt. -

A once-popular Vermont restaurant that's now regarded as an eyesore is coming down.

Demolition is scheduled to start Wednesday on the Harbor Hideaway in Shelburne.

The DuBrul family, which owns the neighboring Automaster car dealership, bought the property. John DuBrul said the former restaurant building on Shelburne Road is falling apart.

The restaurant opened in 1941 and had eccentric decor, everything from the medieval to the macabre. It's now vacant.

DuBrul said the plan is to improve parking capacity at the dealership.
