MORRISVILLE, Vt. -

Tuesday in Lamoille County Vermont dozens of volunteers split and chopped wood.

Governor Peter Shumlin called it "an extraordinary effort ..for people who might otherwise be cold"

More than 150 cords of wood were processed and will eventually make their way into the homes of  lower income families. It was a joint effort of The United Way and the RSVP and Volunteer Center.

Twice the expected number of volunteers came with splitters and trucks.

Governor Shumlin called it a "model"  for the whole state.
