9.11.12 Fall Feel Here, Winter in Colorado!

Posted: Updated:

Yes, it feels like fall here as temperatures dipped into the 30s in many spots this morning! Even a light coat of frost for parts of the Adirondacks and Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.

But! Did you see? Winter is already making a leap toward parts of Colorado with several inches of snow expected over some of the mountains. It's true! Winter storm watches have been hoisted for Pikes Peak and for a mountain range known as the Sangre De Cristo mountains, mostly at elevations over 11000 feet. It almost could go unnoticed as it is such a small area (picture left, click to enlarge)!

An energetic system will dip southward into Colorado, and combine with ample moisture in the region. This will result in flooding rains for the lower elevations, but where it is cold enough on the mountains tops, over 8" of snowfall!  For more on the local weather conditions in that region, click here to visit the National Weather Service Pueblo, CO office web site.

Skiers and riders, wipe the drool from your face...soon enough  :)
