BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Media interviews, door-to-door visits to Rutland businesses and a gathering at a Burlington nightspot are the order of the day as Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin kicks off his re-election campaign.
Shumlin says the theme of his second campaign for governor will be that there's more work to do and that he should be given the chance to do it.
The Putney Democrat points to launching the state on a path toward a universal, government-run health system care as one of his major accomplishments.
Shumlin's Republican opponent, state Sen. Randy Brock, says the state should be heading in the opposite direction, creating more market-based approaches to health care.
The two are set to square off in their first debate Wednesday evening on Vermont Public Radio.
