More Than 600 Vermonters to Receive Refunds for Voicemail Services

MONTPELIER, Vt. -

More than 600 Vermonters will receive refunds for voicemail services they paid for starting in 2005.

According to a press release, a Nevada company Voicemail Direct USA LLC, now known as Intelicom Messaging LLC, charged Vermonters for services they did not agree to buy. The company reached a settlement with the Vermont Attorney General's office.

Refunds total more than $50,000.

According to the Vermont Attorney General's Office, Voicemail direct violated the Vermont Consumer Protection Act by charging consumers without their permission and failed to notify consumers a list of charges.

The press release states that Vermont law bans most third-party charges from being placed on consumers' landline telephone bills.
