Stowe Police Investigate Restaurant Burglary

Posted: Updated:
STOWE, Vt. -

A burglar on the loose and police look to the public for help.  It happened in Stowe in the early morning hours Monday. The surveillance photos show a person carrying a safe. Police believe this is the man who may have stolen cash and credit cards.

It happened on Mountain Road and police aren't saying the name of the restaurant until they can identify the person in the pictures to protect the investigation.  Since the burglary, the credit cards have been used in Waterbury and Randolph in Vermont as well as Lebanon, Concord and Rochester in New Hampshire.

Also on Mountain Road is River House Steak and Seafood, and manager Joshua Anthony is surprised to hear the news of a break-in at a restaurant so close to his, "This doesn't seem like the kind of town where you would come to pull something like this off."

He says at his bar, when someone starts a tab; they take ID's over credit cards to ensure a similar situation does not happen.

"Your ID also can't have access to your bank account so we feel that it's a little better of an idea," said Anthony.

He says while the town sees a lot of tourists' day in and day out it may be hard to identify the person but hopefully these photos will draw awareness.  Anyone with information is asked to call Stowe police at (802-253-7126).
