New Study Raises Questions on How Healthy Organic Is

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

A recent study raises questions about how healthy organic food really is.

Researchers at Stanford University report organic fruits and vegetables do not prove to be more nutritious than conventionally grown food.

However, organic foods have lower exposure to pesticides, but the amount is very small.

A local food manager at City Market in Burlington, Vt. says that study does not take into account other variables that make organic fruits and vegetables nutritious.

"I think it is a little black and white to just look at conventional versus organic and not where the food is grown and what the soil building practices at that farm are," Meg Klepack, Local Food Manager, said.

While organic food can cost more, the demand is rising. The government says organic food accounted for more than 30 billion in sales last year.
