Chittenden Solid Waste District To Pay Up to $1 Million

WILLISTON, Vt. -

A Vermont Solid Waste District is expecting to pay up to $1 million.

They sold compost earlier this summer that was contaminated with herbicides.

The Williston-based Chittenden Solid Waste District sold it before they knew it was contaminated.

They found out in June after some plants wilted.

Officials still don't know where the herbicides came from and tests have found conflicting results.

According to the Burlington Free Press, the district started reimbursing gardeners whose plants were damaged. The costs are expected to reach $1 million.
