More Parents Asking Kids to Stay Closer to Home For College

Going to college is probably one of the biggest expenses for families these days.

Now parents are taking a different approach.

According to a new study, more parents are asking their kids to stay closer to home.

They're hoping to save some money by not living on campus.

The study found the average family hopes to pay for 57% of the total cost of college. The rest, would be paid for in loans, scholarships and gifts.

Right now the average annual cost of a private 4 year program is just under $30,000.
