Vt. Primary Vote Turnout Low

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Voter turnout was predicted to be low and now we know it was.

Secretary of State Jim Condos says this primary had about 40,000 voters out of more than 400,000 that could have voted.

He says because of federal mandates and military voting, it is not possible to move the primary to September.

"Because of the timeline and any possibility of a recount, it really becomes problematic," Condos said.

This primary wasn't the lowest voter turnout in Vermont's history.

Condos says four years ago, the turnout was about 30,000.

The official tally won't be known until next week.
