AG Challenger Donovan says Underdog Campaign Not Ready to Give Up

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Challenger T.J. Donovan was seen as the underdog throughout the campaign with polls ranking him far behind incumbent Bill Sorrell, but his campaign made a surprise upswing, making the race too close to call on election night.

The race for Vermont's next attorney general is just too close to call.

"We are not going to know the outcome of this race tonight," said Donovan supporter and Vermont Democratic Party Representative, Steve Howard.

With a difference of around 200 votes, challenger T.J. Donovan says it's too close to make a decision., "We're down a couple hundred votes so, we're just looking to see where these towns are and if we can make up the difference. You know I think I owe it to all my supporters to wait until all the votes are counted. We feel good."

Tuesday night even before the polls were closed, supporters could feel it was going to be a close race.

"I think we got this, we got this in the bag for sure," said supporter, Erin Kranichfeld.

"We're very optimistic, we are very excited. T.J. ran one of the best grassroots campaign that Vermont's had in a long time," said supporter, Steve Howard.

"People are celebrating already, I mean you can just feel it in the air, it's very electric," said supporter, Lisa Andrew.

Donovan says the polls who doubted him didn't count in the loyalty and passion of his supporters, "I think we've won a tremendous race, we were an underdog the whole way through. We were 20 points down, we were outspent. We had a lot of money come in and we are hanging in, we don't want to give up yet."
