MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Vermonters are headed to the polls for the primary election that will decide which candidate will represent the Democratic Party in the November race for Attorney General.

The primary campaign that ends with Tuesday's balloting pits Chittenden County State's Attorney T.J. Donovan against incumbent Attorney General William Sorrell.

The winner will run in the general election against Republican candidate Jack McMullen, who is not facing a primary opponent.

The attorney general race is the only contest that has generated any significant campaigning with both sides crisscrossing the state and accumulating endorsements from other politicians and newspapers.

The Republican primary ballot features a contest between John McGovern and Brooke Paige for the nomination to take on incumbent U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, who is heavily favored to win another term.
