Since February, Dale Jarvis Jr. has been the prime suspect in his father's disappearance and Monday, He was formally charged with second degree murder for killing, 48 year old Dale Jarvis Sr.
For nearly four months, Jarvis Sr. was missing.
"Without any real referral to law enforcement which right off the bat makes this a unique case," said Franklin County District Attorney, Derek Champagne.
But Champagne says Jarvis Senior would often go out of town without notifying family but in this case, things weren't adding up, "Again and again it went back to Dale Jarvis Junior giving different versions and different accounts of where his father was."
That's when police searched Jarvis' Juniors home in Chateauguay. Where investigators say Jarvis Junior had been using a back hoe to dig in the yard.
"If there's not really good reason to be digging holes on your property and it coincides with someone missing we didn't need a lot but we eventually had enough to execute a search warrant," said Champagne.
And soon after investigators found what they were looking for, "His body was approximately five feet behind the residence and five feet underground," said Champagne.
Autopsy results revealed that Jarvis Senior's death was caused by a blow to the head with a blunt object. Jarvis junior pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and the judge denied his request for bail. If convicted he faces a maximum sentence of 25 to life.
