BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Downtown Burlington was swarming with college students this afternoon. The incoming class of 2016 said the tearful goodbyes to their parents, and started to make the dorm room feel like their new home.

The weekend will be packed with activities and ice-breakers, followed by classes getting into gear Monday. Both Champlain College and the University of Vermont welcomed thousands of new students. One of those in an aspiring game programming engineer.

"Definitely excited to be learning how to work in the industry, I know the professors are retired from the industry, they know the ins and outs, so definitely the experience that I'll be getting," Champlain College Freshman, Sean Heasley said.

UVM says the class of 2016 is one of the most academically talented in the school's history.
The incoming freshman have the highest average SAT score ever.
