Police Arrest 6 Lowell Wind Protesters Monday

Posted: Updated:
LOWELL, Vt. -

Police arrested 6 protesters at the Lowell Mountain Wind Project site after they stopped work on turbines going up on Lowell Mountain Monday.

About 50 people stopped construction at Tower 6 since 6:30 a.m.

This is just the latest in a series of protests at the mountain.

"It is regrettable that a small group has once again resorted to illegal actions. Their presence on the construction site creates a safety hazard, adds cost for our customers, and strains finite law enforcement resources in the area, putting local towns and citizens at risk," Dorothy Schnure, Corporate Spokesperson at Green Mountain Power said in a press release.

This was at the same location, where 7 people were arrested last December.

The protesters are upset that the project could cost taxpayers more money and ruin the environment.
